Should I get varicose vein surgery (EVLA)?

What happens if I don't close the vein on the back of the leg (front vein is shut)? My doctor says it's also refluxing, but I have only mild symptoms and no visible veins there. There is not much in the front either, but I do have a small varicose in groin area.

My experience has been that if you have significant reflux of the small saphenous vein and the greater saphenous vein is closed, over time recurrences will occur from the refluxing lesser saphenous vein. Whether or not you choose to treat this now or wait for new varicose veins and symptoms is a controversial issue.

If you have no symptoms it is reasonable to do nothing at this time. Some
doctors would suggest a repeat u-sound exam in a year.

This is a great question...

There are many reasons for treating varicose veins, yet if you cannot see the benefit in either symptomatic or cosmetic relief, there is limited gain beyond hopefully not needing treatment for that vein again.

If you were to live a healthy vein lifestyle, walking, avoiding prolonged sitting or standing, wearing compression when it makes sense, you might not be burdened by the vein for some time.

I believe it makes the most sense to talk with your doctor. If he/she is planning to follow your care over time, you will not be burning a bridge while waiting. If there is a medical reason that could be explained further, that might help you better understand your situation. Simply put, there are risks for vein treatment though rare. Be certain you choose to treat the vein for the right reasons.
Best wishes

If you have no symptoms in the leg with the refluxing vein (swelling,
aching, pain, large varicose veins or skin changes) I would hold off on
intervention.

I would not treat the short saphenous vein unless you are symptomatic.
