I have very ugly varicose veins on my upper thigh that sometimes look tinted. I was told they are too old. Should I have them looked at again? Which procedures might be suggested?
You should definitely have your veins evaluated properly to determine which treatment options are available.

I never heard of varicose veins being too old. I definitely think you should have them looked at again. Be sure to find an accredited vein specialist who is skilled at treating venous disease. After completing a full examination, including ultrasound, he or she can determine whether the veins you see are problematic and need treatment. Should they be problematic, you and your doctor can sit down and discuss the various treatment options in depth. Your doctor might suggest a combination of radiofrequency ablation, phlebectomy and adjunctive sclerotherapy.

Go to a varicose vein clinic, not your primary family doctor.

There are no varicose veins so "old" that they are untreatable. Make sure you consult with an experienced vein specialist capable of performing duplex ultrasound to properly map and diagnose your problem in order to provide you with appropriate treatment options.

Nothing is 'too old' to take out, unless those bulging veins have clot in them. Other than that reason, they can still be treated. Have an ultrasound done by a clinic with physicians accredited by the American College of Phlebology.

Varicose veins are due to refluxing valves. The gold standard of treatment is to have a venous reflux ultrasound to identify the source of the varicose veins and then this refluxing vein is closed with either a laser or radio frequency catheter. This is an office procedure done under local anesthesia. You should see a vein specialist.

Yes
You should see a vein specialist and have him do full vein mapping. Depending on type of vein there is different choice of treatments

Sounds like they would be worth looking at again. Difficult to say what procedure(s) would be required without a thorough examination.

There are several options for the treatment of varicose veins: phlebectomy [ surgery ], sclerotherapy [ injection of medication] and laser ablation. I would strongly recommend you consult with a vein specialist about
treatment options.
