I have a heavy feeling in my groin and legs since the endovenous laser ablation surgery I had a year ago. The pain can be severe on days where I am on my feet a lot. My feet also hurt. All symptoms started right after the ablation. I have been doctoring to find a conclusion. Do you know what's wrong? Are these symptoms normal?
These symptoms are not normal. Almost all patients see their symptoms improve after endovenous laser ablation (EVLT). You may have residual or incompletely treated veins. It is also possible that your symptoms are unrelated to veins. Too many vein care practitioners only perform the laser procedure, despite the fact that most patients require ancillary procedures like ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy or microphlebectomy after EVLT. You should find the most experienced vein care doctor and obtain a baseline ultrasound exam to search for residual abnormal veins.

I am sorry you are having so much pain. We do not use laser ablation in our office due to the pain that can
persist. I would recommend a follow-up visit with the physician that did the procedure or get a second opinion.
An ultrasound could explain your symptoms and help the doctor determine the most effective treatment plan.

These symptoms are not normal. You must still have some residual problem veins and will need further treatment. Return to your personal vein speciaist or another specialist for a second opinion.

There could be a pelvic source to those veins that might be giving you pain. Find a clinic with an interventional radiologist who can perform a pelvic ultrasound. That would be the first step to determine if there is a source in the pelvis.

These symptoms after a year are not normal. Consult a neurologist to see if there was damage to the nerves.

If you have been "doctoring," what have the doctors said? It is not normal and if you haven't had a follow up ultrasound, then I think that's the first step.

See a vein specialist for an ultrasound and exam. Both will shed light on your symptoms and reveal to the specialist which treatment is best for your condition.

The symptoms you describe are not "normal" post-endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). I would recommend a consultation and evaluation by a board certified vascular surgeon who can examine you, perform ultrasound and any other testing needed. It may or may not be related but if you state the pain can be severe, then you should be evaluated.

Your experience is certainly not typical. I'd suggest returning to the treating physician. If you're still not satisfied, I'd suggest getting a second opinion.

Possible deep venous valvular insufficiency? See an experienced vein MD and perhaps have a repeat ultrasound.

These symptoms are not normal one year after endovenous laser ablation. You should have a follow-up venous ultrasound to evaluate both your superficial and deep venous systems. If these are normal, then you will need a full evaluation to look for causes of your problem. I would recommend seeing a vascular surgeon.
