What are the short & long term risks of this procedure?

I had the Endovenous laser treatment on my upper leg,(long Saph?)Doctor wants me to do all four, I'm questioning if I really need all of that done. Can this cause me harm in the short or long term?

Probably won't cause harm but the necessity of these treatments is another
question. If you have no symptoms there is no reason to treat.

When we hear this we often recommend a second opinion from a board certified vascular trained surgeon to confirm if this if necessary. In some people they do have symptomatic reflux in all 4 veins, but it is rare.

If you have proven symptomatic reflux in all 4 veins, then they should be treated. Not everyone requires ablation of both greater and lesser saphenous veins. Short term risks include swelling, bruising, hard lumps from the microphlebectomies and rarely nerve irritation. Other risks which are rare include DVT and even PE. Long term risks include recurrence and leg swelling. Both are only in a small percentage. As a rule there are very few long term risks. You should speak with your vein specialist if any other questions.

While a few patients do need treatment of the bilateral great and small saphenous veins, the vast majority do not. If you have any questons about this, see another vein specialist who is board certified by the American Board of Phlebology and get a second opinion.

Depends on your symptoms. I generally only treat the veins required. Too complex a question to answer without more information. Get opinions from providers.

In general, there are no long term consequences from the procedures provided that those veins need to be treated, i.e. there is venous insufficiency/reflux or are responsible for your symptoms or varicose veins.
