What, in your experience, is the best syringe for visual cosmetic sclerotherapy?

I've had problems with disposable plastic 3 and 5cc syringes with hard to push plungers, which results in jerking and the needle dislodging. What, in your experience, is the best syringe for visual cosmetic sclerotherapy? Thank you.

I am not sure what you mean by "visual". I use Terumo syringes. The sclerosants solutions become sticky quickly. I do not load the syringe until I am ready to inject to help avoid this.

Are they BD syringes? Typically, BD products are bought but I've seen a few from another source. The 3cc work the best with a 32g needle. I've heard of the small 100u insulin syringes being used as well. If the 3cc is giving you problems, try the smaller insulin syringe, which can be nice for injecting the really small veins.

I have not had any problems using plastic BD syringes and Acuderm 30-32g needles for sclerotherapy. Reasons for "sticky plungers" include older solution, too small of a needle, or lower quality syringes.

Firstly you should not use a 5 cc syringe. 3 cc is the correct pressure. Depending upon the solution, you should try different brands of syringes as the solution tends to cause this "sticking". I am using BD brand. Change the syringes each time you need more solution, don't fill ahead of time. Check your solution strengths. Results are just as good with decreased strength. The stronger the solution the faster the syringe sticks.

Terumo syringes were the best syringes for both liquid and foam sclerotherapy. About 3 years ago the company stopped providing these syringes to US suppliers. I have been through a number of different syringes including Nipro, BD and Mckesson. Although none are as efficient as Terumo, Nipro is the one that I currently use.
