I do not routinely give any medications before sclerotherapy. Very occasionally, if someone is needle phobic or very apprehensive, i may give 1 mg of ativan orally or 5mg of percocet.

Typically no pain killers are given before the procedure, although ibuprofen may be taken prior.

It is done under a special type of local anesthesia called tumescent, so that the patient can be awake, and does not need any major type of anesthetic.

We do give a small amount of ativan for some patients who are anxious to make patients more comfortable. After the procedure, generally only anti-inflammatories are needed for the mild tenderness, if any, that most people experience.

Generally, no painkiller medication is necessary before modern
phlebology treatments. Only if a patient is personally prefers
premedication, then I would prescribe Vicodin or Tylenol NO.# to be
taken an hour before sclerotherapy of EVL procedure.

There is no need for analgesics prior to sclerotherapy. Some professionals suggest the use of ibuprofen or or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents but it is not necessary.

For sclerotherapy of spider veins no pain medication is required. It is usually very well tolerated.
For more involved treatments of varicose veins we use oral pain medication and a local anesthetic.

There is no need to use any painkillers before sclerotherapy, we do not
give any to our patients. If a patient wishes, they can take Tylenol
before a treatment, but NO blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc).

We don't typically use painkillers before or after any procedures. They simply aren't necessary. Sometimes patients on their own may choose to take ibuprofen for a day or two after the endovenous laser procedure.
