After microphlebectomy there is minimal recovery. The procedure is done under tumescent anesthesia which gives anesthesia to the areas for at least 24 hours. Usually tylenol is all that is needed for pain and most activities can be resumed the next day. If you are doing strenuous work or exercise 72 hours may be necessary. Compression hose should be worn for 10 days to 2 weeks after the procedure.

For most patients the recovery is minimal. It is important to wear compression stockings for at least 2 weeks. The pain level is usually mild, requiring no more than OTC acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Patients can resume normal activities the very next day. Sometimes the same day if the segment the vein operated is short.

Patients walk out of the office. They are encouraged to walk but elevate their leg when seated. They are discouraged from lifting or heavy aerobic exercise. Most patients only take Motrin for pain relief.

Most patients need to "lay low" for a few days. We encourage our patients to refrain from vigorous exercise for about two weeks. But other than that, you can pretty much go back to normal activity.
