Endovenous laser ablation closes the leaking saphenous veins or accessory veins which are the source of the varicose veins. The varicose veins are treated by microphlebectomies. Closure rates are around 97% at 5 years. If varicose veins recur, then another source of reflux should be evaluated. Recurrence rates are around 10%.

If the EVLT is successful, the treated vein (most commonly the greater saphenous vein) will not come back.

Overall the recurrence rate is approximately 15%, usually from other branches that open up as opposed to the treated vein.

The odds of a treated vein returning are about 2 in 100. Although some studies have reported a little more or less recurrence, 2% is probably the best estimate.

That question is difficult to answer because it depends on how you are followed after treatment. The veins that are treated should not ever return. But follow up periodically (annually) is important to ensure that no new veins appear and that the treated veins go away appropriately.
