When can I resume exercising and being out in the sun after ambulatory phlebectomy and laser ablation?

I am scheduled for ambulatory phlebectomy and laser ablation in a week. I also have several 5K runs soon and a two-week beach vacation in June. How soon before I would be able to exercise and run again after these procedures? How long to stay out of the sun?

I recommend avoiding strenuous activity for 5 days after phlebectomy and laser ablation. However, light activity such as elliptical, walking and bike riding can be done within 48 hours. I recommend avoiding sun burn for at least 2 weeks and longer if the phlebectomy sites are not fully healed (they sometimes take up to 4 weeks).

Exercise can start as soon as 2 weeks after EVLT, but make sure you wear the compression stockings while exercising to ensure compression on those treated veins

Just make sure you use really good sunblock for about 6wks. You can resume exercise one week after the procedure.

We usually recommend 1 week, but I would check with your physician regarding his/her personal preference. Make sure to keep you phlebectomy sites protected, as they need 4-6 weeks to heal completely.

You can begin running 2 weeks after your procedure. I would start slow and stop if you have pain. To be safe, if you plan on running long distance, I would wait 1 month before running races. In terms of sun exposure, I would wait 2 weeks after injection and use sunscreen to the area like you would protect any other skin and don't allow it to burn.

5K run shortly after ambulatory phlebectomy is too dangerous. Wait a minimum of one month after the procedure for a run that strenuous. The risk is
bleeding from veins and development of hematoma, edema, possible infection. Sun shouldn't be a problem even a week after.

Should be able to run within a week or two, but double check with your treating physician. He or she may have specific recommendations, such as avoiding the sun for 4-6 weeks post-procedure.

I experienced severe bruising and intense pain 8 days after ambulatory phlebectomy and EVLT. I could not even touch the area from my right groin all the way down to my knee. I followed all of the doctor's orders given post-op. Upon a recheck yesterday, no infection was found, but during the ultrasound the pain upon the docs pressing the area was excruciating and I felt a burning sensation go all the way up leg. What's going on? Could I have a hematoma?
