When should I get Sclerotherapy if I also want to do laser hair removal?

I was planning to get laser hair removal on my lower legs but I also wanted to do sclerotherapy. I also previously had a DVT and PE. Do you suggest I have sclerotherapy done and, if so, when before or after the IPL laser hair removal? Thank you!

The risk of DVT with sclerotherapy of spider veins is exceedingly low. To avoid pigmentation issues I would separate the treatments by at least 2 weeks.

We have treated patients with sclerotherapy between sessions of hair removal. You can have sclerotherapy within a few days of hair removal, providing you don't have any skin irritation. If you have had a recent evaluation and ultrasound exam you should be okay. I would talk with your surgeon who is treating you. Are you on Coumadin/Warfarin? We do treat patients with DVT/PE history with sclerotherapy if the exam is okay, and we also treat patients on blood thinners with good results.

You may be hypercoaguable and should consider having this checked by your MD. There is a higher risk of clotting with even sclerotherapy, if you have an underlying clotting disorder that predisposes you to clotting.
I'm not sure that timing with the other treatments makes much difference for the sclerotherapy physician. Not sure if its an issue for the laser.

Have an evaluation from a hematologist first and find out the reasons behind your DVT & PE (possible clotting disorder) prior to having sclerotherapy and go by their recommendations. We have no issues whatsoever in doing sclerotherapy and laser hair removal simultaneously. The time frame of laser hair removal will be best assessed by your technician/ laser hair removal professional.

I don't see any complications from laser hair removal. Those are superficial treatments and won't effect things below the skin.

You can have sclerotherapy but you need to know that there is a very low risk of developing a DVT following sclerotherapy. I would not let this prevent you from having sclerotherapy. You should have the sclerotherapy before the laser hair removal and wait at least a week between the treatments to allow the sclero to heal.
