I have been having pain associated with clotting on my right shin. Is the best course of action to just get one of those tight fitting socks?
I would recommend being evaluated as to why you have the clotting. Do you have varicose veins, an underlying vein reflux or a clotting problem? You can certainly wear a 15-20 or 20-30 mmHg pressure knee hose. Ensure you are correctly measured and fitted and purchase a good quality hose.

If you think that you have varicose veins on your shin then I do think you should see a vein specialist. Before your appointment you should get a pair of compression socks and see if they help alleviate some of your leg discomfort. Most health insurance companies will require you to wear compression socks (at least 20-30 mmHg) for a defined length of time before they will approve any covered vein treatment.

If you have a vein related issue then you should see a vein specialist who can do a full venous history, physical exam, venous ultrasound and any additional tests required to make a diagnosis and give you the best advice as to treatment.

It is usually best to be treated by a specialist. By "specialist" we are referring to an individual with higher education in the particular field, significant amount of experience, and a favorable history of positive outcomes.
It must be emphasized that especially in the USA, vein conditions were fairly neglected. Among the results of this includes persistent myths and propagation of inaccurate information.
For several decades both here and abroad, vein related treatment has been among the 3 most frequent causes of medical litigation. Treating venous disease requires significant specialization.

I recommend visiting your primary care physician right away. Alternatively you could see a vein specialist, but if you think you have a clotting problem you need to be seen immediately.

Please make an appointment with a local facility. A blood clot is serious. Thank you. James
