Which type of compression stockings work best when exercising?

I'm 2 weeks post-ablation/microphlebectomy. I want to start back up at the gym, but am unsure of what type of compression to use while working out. Socks/sleeves/pants? Medical grade? Brands? Thanks!

Our clinic uses Sigvaris brand compression stockings. They offer a variety of styles, sizes and fabrics. We normally recommend 20-30 mmHg compression for daily use for patients who have minimal symptoms post-treatments. Sports socks are great during exercising and do come in 20-30 mmHg compression. Most people like only knee-highs, while others prefer thigh-highs. Either one is fine.

Without seeing the condition of your legs post-treatment and without knowing if there are any residual varicosities, I would recommend a thigh-high, graduated compression stocking that is 20-30 mmHG or 30-40 mmHg.

In Europe, the answer would be that no stockings are required. In the United States, however, most treating physicians would recommend graduated 30-40 mm full-length stockings for the first two weeks after treatment, and none thereafter.

Great question. There are compression stockings now that are specifically designed for athletes. They allow for correct contraction and expansion of the calf muscles. Bauerfeind and Sigvaris are 2 brands we use, but there are other quality brands.

Medi makes the best support socks called CEP, which are great for people who need compression but also like to exercise. Check online.

Try the cushioned cotton Sigvaris sports socks (15-20 mmHg compression).

I don't recommend compression after 2 weeks following ablation. If you feel that you need compression, then 20-30mmHg knee length is sufficient. Gold Toe is one of several companies that makes a nice, inexpensive lightweight stocking.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
