Compression stockings increase the blood that returns to the heart, which will progress the heart failure.

It is possible that the compression stockings will force fluid back towards the already overloaded heart.

The compression stockings do not treat the underlying problem, and in some cases the shortness of breath can be made worse by mobilizing the fluid from the legs to the circulation.

Your question is confusing. Do you mean "not contracted"?

Compression stockings are not always contradicted in these cases. Sometimes the worry is that "recruiting" extra fluid into the vascular space suddenly can worsen the pulmonary edema.

Compression stockings are not contraindicated for heart failure or pulmonary edema. Compression stockings function by reducing the venous hypertension and increasing the venous return to the heart. Both of these things are good for heart failure and pulmonary edema. That said, it is important that the stockings are not too tight (such can result in edema above the stocking). The stockings should be a graduated compression, with the highest compression at the foot and progressively decreasing to the thigh.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
