Why hasn't my varicose vein disappeared after 3 weeks?

I had the Venefit treatment done 3 1/2 weeks ago. My swollen varicose vein has not gone down at all. If the swelling has not gone down does it mean the swelling won't go away? Will wearing my compression stockings help the swelling go down?

Normally there is a second step to completely treat the varicose veins; that is, compression sclerotherapy. This is done after the closure for the remaining varicosities and some just beneath the surface. However, not all physicians that perform the procedure do compression sclerotherapy. The veins may get smaller and usually need additional treatment.

You probably require an additional procedure called a microphlebectomy. This will remove the remaining varicose vein and can be done in the office with local anesthesia.

Lots of variables may explain that, it depends on who your doctor was and how comprehensive his supplemental treatments were with possible injections of other branch veins. For that, it is a very difficult question to answer. Hopefully your physician will pursue this for you and make you happy. If he has nothing to offer you, then you need to seek another vein specialist.

What you are probably seeing are the branch varicosities of the vein that was closed by the VNUS procedure. Although some of these branches may significantly decrease in size, some will require adjunctive treatment,
such as sclerotherapy or microstab phlebectomy. The appearance of these veins does not in any way indicate a failure of the procedure.

This procedure closes the leaking valves but does not remove the varicose veins unless a procedure called microphlebectomy is done at the same time. Some people perform the closure procedure with the hope that the varicose veins will resolve over time but, if this does occur, it may take 6 months or more. You need to speak with your treating physician to see if microphlebectomies were done, or if they are planned for the future. Compression stockings will not make the varicose veins disappear; they only ease discomfort and help to slow the progression of venous disease.

Ijust had VNUS closure surgery 4 days ago and the pain is minimal. But, I did notice today it feels like there is a throbbing or heartbeat, almost like a twitching or pumping in my upper leg. It doesn't hurt. Is this normal? What's causing the pulsing/throbbing? Also, am I able to tan (tanning bed or stand up) if I wear my support hose so my leg is not directly exposed to the light, and if I don't use tanning lotion on the leg?? When will the fat, worm-like veins go down or look better?
