I had my vein stripped in my right leg 5 years ago. Soon after, I developed a scabby red spot (where there had been a small unexplained hole post-surgery). That spot eventually spread and developed into a series red spots.I have seen several doctors...help!
You may have blushing or neovascularization of the area, which can happen after varicose vein removal.
Often there is an 'open' vein which is malfunctioning to blame. A duplex ultrasound can help determine if that is the case. The vein can be closed with duplex guided sclerotherapy which is nonsurgical and involves no 'downtime'.

If you had vein stripping five years ago, it's best to make an appointment with a vascular specialist for a consult.

Ultrasound, and possibly using light sources like a Vein lite or Syris headlight should be able to determine the nature of the spots and what the best treatment is.

I would have to examine the spots in order to provide you with an answer to your question.

It is difficult to make a diagnosis based on your description alone. I would need to examine the area in order to help you further.

It's hard to answer your question without evaluating your leg.

Simple out-patient duplex ultrasound examination by a phlebologist will reveal the cause of your dermatitis and indicate which treatment is indicated.

It depends on if you actually had the vein stripped or the simple ligation with small incisions on your leg (this is an in-office procedure). I have never seen any unusual complication after the AP, not even an infection. It is difficult to answer your question without more information and a consultation, but I would speculate that the two are unrelated. What did the other physicians say about the spots? What is the shape or size of the spots? Is there a pattern to the spots? Were you given an antibiotic after the procedure? (Keflex or Levaquin are commonly given.) Are the spots over the small incisions?

I am not sure what the reason for the red blotches is. I would start with a full venous evaluation with a venous duplex to see the anatomy of your veins. I would also see a vascular surgeon to evaluate you. Your problem may not at all be related to your veins. A vascular surgeon could decide this and refer you to the appropriate physician if you do not have a circulatory problem.
