What can I do about my problematic veins?

Three months after endoveous laser ablation surgery on my leg, the veins are still prominent and lumpy. A scan was done and it revealed that they are still there. In addition to the veins still being present, I've been experiencing numbness. What can I do about my problematic veins?

Many patients who have an ablation need phlebectomy or foam sclerotherapy afterwards to treat the varicose veins. Your doctor should have discussed this with you. You can still have this done.

The reason that the veins are still there is because they were never treated with the exception of the saphenous vein that they lasered. No vein affected by vein disease will go away without being treated. As for the numbness, it is from the inflammation caused by the abnormal veins in your legs. They are irritating the nerves that run adjacent to them. The result can be an itching, aching, numbness sensation that your are feeling. You have to address all of your abnormal veins and actually treat them in order to set rid of the issues that you are complaining about. If you would like your legs fixed, give my office a call and come in for a free consultation so that we can address these issues.

Depending on the venous ultrasound this determines what technique to use to get rid of the remaining abnormal veins and improve your symptoms. Perhaps sclerotherapy, another ablation or microphlebectomy would help. You need to make sure you are seeing a qualified vein specialist.

Endovenous ablation does not eradicate varicose veins. It closes the malfunctioning valves feeding the veins. The veins need to be treated either by microphlebectomies or sclerotherapy. I prefer microphlebectomies. Numbness can occur following an ablation. It usually is self limiting but may take up to a year to resolve. See a vein specialist.

Get a second opinion, find out what type of laser the first physician used and maybe you need a new laser and phlebectomies. Some physicians use reusable fibers and I don't think these are calibrated or work well and often I see veins open after doctors use these. Get a new vi study and make sure which veins you have insufficiency in and make sure these are closed correctly.

I had EVLT about 2-3 weeks ago and I'm still experiencing sharp pain. It's mostly when I stand or walk. Even when I wear a compression stocking during standing or walking, there is no relief. But if I don't wear the stocking, it feels like my vein is exploding. I checked with my vascular surgeon and he said I have a clot. What should I do? Is there any way to get the pain to subside? NSAIDs are not helping. Is it possible to remove the clot? If so, will the pain go away then?

I went to have my 6 month ultrasound after having both legs treated with endovenous laser ablation. According to my doctor, there is still trapped blood below my right knee. He assumes it will find a way out eventually. Is this true? Also, my right leg is numb. He says that this may be permanent. Will the feeling ever come back? Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? I completely regret doing this. :(
