I accidentally scratched a site where I had a clot and blood drained profusely. Could this be a problem? Should I follow up with my doc?

Very hard to say from what is described. If a superficial vein, this does happen, but should be looked at for removal to avoid again in the future. You mention a "clot," which is usually not on the surface, so not quite sure what you experienced.

Yes, you should consult with your doctor ASAP. I presume that you put pressure on the area and the bleeding is controlled. The reason to see you doctor is to make sure that this area remains clean and that it does not progress to infection, as well as to manage other areas with similar "clots" to prevent future occurrences like this one.

I read an article that stated that during weightlifting, oxygen is deprived from the body; a natural reaction is to see the bulging veins. Is this true? Why would weight lifting aggravate varicose veins? I want to start weightlifting as it is my passion and can’t live without it. I’m concerned that with my history of varicose veins , weightlifting will make it worse. Also I had gone under VNUS closure of GSV in both the legs a year before n have some veins dilated on feet.

If our body has a strong stress resisting capacity how can weightlifting aggravate varicose and spider veins? Also, CVI is hereditary yet some veins specialists suggest that weight lifting is very strenuous and should not be performed by people suffering from CVI. Average athletes however, intake enough nutrients to maintain the veins valves healthy.

The gnawing pain has been going on for about 2 1/2 weeks now. Pain moved to the bottom center part of foot within the last week with pain radiating up the inner thigh to my groin area. My leg has been swelling as well and I've been nauseous. I've actually had some chest pains today and felt a little dizzy. I have been scanned for DVT once before (back in August after returning from vacation...same symptoms and leg swelled twice its size). Is this DVT?

After having a venogram, the doctor said that I have blockages. One was 30% and the other 50%. But he said he would not stent them until they were 70%. What other treatment options are available? And is it just a wait-and-watch approach? Besides the compression stockings, is there anything else that can be done to help relieve the leg swelling?

I was diagnosed with a DVT one week ago. It is the second one in less than one year. A PE is not suspected. I am on Xarelto and most symptoms have diminished (no swelling, pain or discoloration). Can slow, easy running increase the probability that a DVT will break free or dislodge and become a PE? If so, is there a treatment that will dissolve the clot so I can return to running?

I am an active middle aged female with a history of May-Thurner syndrome (successfully stented) and two chronic complete obstructions of common femoral and iliac veins on the right due to prior DVT. My vein specialist is unable to get a catheter through these obstructions to address by endovascular means. What options would be available for open surgery and what is involved in venous bypass surgery?

I will be 50 yrs old in February. I did my first triathlon in 1982 and my first marathon in 1986. Since then, I have been active - open water swimming, road cycling avg 18-20mph, any sports I can, climbing trees. For the last 20 years my work requires walking or standing or sitting for long periods of time (and of course lots of sitting while driving). I want to know what I should and shouldn't do to live with this condition. Please advise.

Today my left leg is 1 inch larger than my right at the mid-calf. My left leg aches as well. I'm currently wearing compression hose. Is this OK?

I swim a mile every day and walk everywhere. I have noticed that my toe next to my big toe is developing a big gap between them. Also my ankles, feet and knees are very stiff, making it very difficult to walk, especially in the morning. Are these symptoms all part of venous reflux that I have had for a few years?

I am thin, 30 and have severe groin pain during menstruation. I had twins two years ago. During pregnancy I could hardly walk due to pain, swelling and throbbing veins in my leg and groin. My OB said the varicosities extended through my uterus. Teh leg/groin veins pretty much went away after delivery, but came back in the last month. I am active, so weight/sitting is not contirbuting. I also have had a narrowing of my esophagous and am wondering about esophageal varicosities.

I had a stress fracture in my leg near the ankle. It healed fine, that was never a problem, but I didn’t realize how important it was after being immobile to exercise. There was no physical therapy because insurance companies apparently don’t want to pay for that. So now I might have some damage to my leg veins. I only have one nodule under the skin in a superficial one. It looks like I will know more next week. I am now doing 7 to 14 miles at the gym every day.

I have venous insufficiency (mild-moderate) and was told that I should wear compression socks for life. I see the reasons for wearing them during work as I either sit or stand for long periods of time. However, summertime is HOT! I was wondering if I hit 10k steps or more a day, especially during summer, would that be a sufficient substitute to the socks? Just curious to hear your opinions on this.
