Yes, absolutely. There really aren't any good treatments out there other than compression stockings for deep reflux at this point. There is investigational deep vein valve transplants, but I haven't seen any done yet. I'm am going to a vein conference at the end of the month. Maybe I will have more information then.

There is no guarantee that severe complications won't arise from having the reflux. Have you met with an Interventional Radiologist to discuss the reflux, or had an ultrasound done? If there is something that can be done either treating superficial venous reflux to help alleviate the pressure from the deep system, or a possible venogram, etc. It would be wise to seek treatment options.

Patients with deep venous insufficiency often have statsis changes and swelling of the legs and ankles. Compression stockings will help control the swelling but will not reverse the deep vein reflux.

If you have documented deep system reflux, it is in your best interest to wear thigh-high compression stockings for the rest of your life. They do not guarantee that you will not experience swelling or other issues resulting from the reflux, but they can slow the progression or likelihood that you will experience symptomatic complications from the reflux.

Deep venous reflux is common and could be completely asymptomatic, or it could lead to swelling of the legs and ultimately venous insufficiency. The basic treatment for deep venous reflux is support hose, exercise , leg elevation and keeping the weight within a normal range. You should be able to live normally with deep reflux.
