Could I possibly have a blood clot after vein laser surgery? Is that common?

My doctor went in two inches below the knee and now the inner back side of my knee to the entry site hurts. It's red and swollen and I can't fully extend or bend leg at the knee. Surgery was two weeks ago. Is this normal?

Could be normal. Get another ultrasound to be sure.

A blood clot after laser surgery is possible. The incidence is about 1 in a 1,000 procedures. However, what you describe sounds more like superficial phlebitis. I would recommend following up with your surgeon.

Following laser ablation surgery, the treated veins usually become hard as they contract from the laser. Also, any bleeding under the skin can cause the area to swell. What you describe may be normal, but I would certainly recommend getting a follow-up ultrasound of the area to make sure that there is no clot, which can cause similar symptoms.
