Doctor did VNUS from the knee up to the groin. Now I have huge bulging vein from groin to the knee that weren't there before. What should i do?

My closure was not successful. What are my options now. My leg feels heavy, and is swollen around the knee, with large bulging veins and pain in the groin.

If you have followed up with your surgeon including ultrasound, you may want a second opinion from a board certified vascular surgeon to evaluate the cause of your swelling. This should be done ASAP to rule out a blood clot

Infrequently, venous ablation does not appear to close the vein in the short period. If after four weeks, the venous duplex ultrasound still demonstrates incomplete closure, a repeat venous ablation with a modified technique may seal the vein.

We recommend you have a formal venous ultrasound to evaluate your veins.

If you had vein closure done recently and have developed a bulging vein on your leg after that it can be the vein that was closed or a different vein ( a branch) which has gotten bigger after the closure of saphenous vein. You will need to get an ultrasound by a vein specialist and then chart out a plan of treatment. This will likely include vein closure, if the vein has not been closed properly by first procedure and phlebectomy, which is removal of the bulging veins on skin after saphenous vein has been closed.

If the vein extends from the knee to the groin along the inside of the leg, this is most likely the treated great saphenous vein which has now clotted and become hard. This is normal post ablation. If there is clot within the vein and you can feel it, this clot can be released under local anesthesia. You should follow up with your treating physician so see if this is the problem or if it is something else.

I would recommend getting a new venous insufficiency ultrasound and see exactly what the problem is and where it comes from. It may be that you have pelvic insufficiency feeding your problem or another vein.

Ijust had VNUS closure surgery 4 days ago and the pain is minimal. But, I did notice today it feels like there is a throbbing or heartbeat, almost like a twitching or pumping in my upper leg. It doesn't hurt. Is this normal? What's causing the pulsing/throbbing? Also, am I able to tan (tanning bed or stand up) if I wear my support hose so my leg is not directly exposed to the light, and if I don't use tanning lotion on the leg?? When will the fat, worm-like veins go down or look better?
