IPL is not considered a primary treatment for spider veins as it does not work well. Sclerotherapy is the gold standard to treat spider veins on the legs. IPL, however, may help facial spider veins if they are small.

IPL is effective on small spider veins. There are times when sclerotherapy is used in conjunction with laser therapy, as some spider veins may be too large for laser.

IPL and many other lasers are ineffective on spider veins. Injections are the gold standard for treatment, especially if there are underlying 'feeder' reticular veins.In our center we treat many people with needle fears. With distractions, ice, music, etc. we do manage to do successful treatments with patients returning to complete their series. In some cases we will order a relaxant such as Valium before hand, but a driver is needed. There are some lasers which are effective but these don't address the feeder veins and veins may return fairly soon.
