Which is the best procedure?
They are very similar with pretty much the same ultimate outcome. EVLT uses a laser and VNUS uses radio-frequency, that is the difference. We have chosen to use VNUS because it seems to be a little more comfortable for the patient and tends to result in less bruising, swelling, pain, etc.
They both work very well and overall the longterm data are essentially equal.
Both are endovenous techniques to close leaking(refluxing valves}. Vnus uses radiofrequency energy and laser uses light energy. As far as comparison-the techniques of the procedure and long term results are about the same. Some claim less patient bruising and pain with RF but I have seen very little difference.
