It has been one week since my treatment and I was told after I have an ultrasound to check the vein closure, I would be able to resume going to the gym. However, riding is much more specific to the inner thigh, and I have quite a bit of bruising. It doesn't seem to me that I would be able to resume riding in four days based on the bruising and the "heaviness" I feel, but I would like to return to my schedule as soon as possible.
We advise that you consult with the physician who performed your procedure.

We suggest after the two-week follow up, get an ultrasound to see if the vein remains closed before you ease into your previous routine.

You should be able to resume your usual activities. Start slow and build up your activity. By being active, you will actually speed up the healing process and help clear up the bruising.

Riding will be more problematic due to the location of the GSV on the inner thigh. Although it would be safe to ride, it will be more painful than normal due to the inflammation. I generally advise patients to resume any activity when it is comfortable to do so.

There are no medical restrictions following laser ablation, with the exception of heavy weightlifting. You can resume horseback riding if you feel up to it physically.

It's best to have the doctor who performed the procedure advise on this.

You can go back to horseback riding whenever you would like. It will have no impact on your treatment except for the fact that you will be bumping up against your inner thigh, where your soreness will predominate. In reality, exercise of any nature is essential in the healing process when undergoing vein treatments. So basically it's whatever you can tolerate. But the more active in general, the better. Your leg(s) will not feel normal but you are not hurting anything.

We advise our patients to resume normal physical activity immediately after an ablation procedure, unless there are any special circumstances. In this case, if there is substantial bruising after the vein ablation procedure, it will be advisable to take it easy for a few extra days. Most bruising should subside within two weeks and that may be a good time to restart your horseback riding.

I recommend 10 days before resuming all types of exercise.

I would recommend waiting at least 1-2 weeks after surgery. The inner thigh is a sensitive area, so if you do horseback riding, it may be a bit uncomfortable while riding because of the pressure that's being applied to the inner thigh. You should resume horseback riding based on how you're feeling and how much discomfort you can tolerate.

Following a vein closure, I encourage patients to get back to normal activities as soon as possible. What you are feeling is normal post-closure. Usually it takes 3 to 5 days to return to most normal activities, but everyone heals at different rates. If uncomfortable, modify what you do.
