How long after VNUS treatment can I start riding my horse? Can that heavy contact with the saddle cause damage?

I had the VNUS procedure performed on my left leg 13 days ago, with a follow-up ultrasound 7 days post op. I was told it was ok for me to ride my horse after that week. I waited until day 11 before getting in the saddle & rode on day 12 as well. I ride competitively in dressage, which requires a lot of leg strength & contact. I have now had some sharp pains following my two rides and also have a good bit of discomfort behind my knee. Can I cause damage even though I was cleared by my Dr?

You should be able resume normal activities within one week of a closure procedure.

The pain that you are experiencing is not from the horseback riding, it is from the fact that you only received partial treatment for your vein issues and now you are starting to experience some complications from the treatment you have already received. In this case, pain and discomfort. You need additional ultrasound evaluations and treatment for those refluxing veins that were not treated the first time.

After being cleared by your doctor, you should be good to go. We have our patients wait 2 weeks before doing any strenuous exercise.

Contact the doctor who performed the procedure and let him or her know about any pain that you are experiencing. Only your doctor can help you decide if you are ready to ride.

Ijust had VNUS closure surgery 4 days ago and the pain is minimal. But, I did notice today it feels like there is a throbbing or heartbeat, almost like a twitching or pumping in my upper leg. It doesn't hurt. Is this normal? What's causing the pulsing/throbbing? Also, am I able to tan (tanning bed or stand up) if I wear my support hose so my leg is not directly exposed to the light, and if I don't use tanning lotion on the leg?? When will the fat, worm-like veins go down or look better?
