I am allergic to sulfa. If I need sclerotherapy, can Sotradecol be used?

Yes, it can be used; you should have no issues. I have done sclerotherapy treatments in those with the allergy before, but on a case-by-case basis. Premedication with steroids may help.

Most sclerosing agents contain sulfur compounds. Depending on the reaction, a steroid prep may be beneficial prior to sclerotherapy.

Most patients that have sulfa allergy do not have allergy to sodium tetradecyl sulfate. If you can eat eggs or drink wine, which has sulfates and sulfites, you are not likely to have an allergy to this class of sclerosant solutions.

Yes. Even though there is technically some sulfur elements in Sotradecol, its atomic structure does not expose these sulfur elements. This is why patients with sulfa allergies do not really have allergic reactions to Sotradecol. That said, since Sotradecol is technically a natural mineral, We always monitor every patient after any injection.
