How long to people typically need to wear a compression wrap?

I have been in a compression wrap for three months. Both legs, feet and ankles. A nurse changes it twice a week. How much longer do people usually need to wear these? Is this normal?

The duration of wearing compression wraps or support hose depends on the condition being treated. It can vary from several days to forever.

The duration and type of compression is very dependent on the reason why it is being used. If you have an ulcer, then the duration and frequency of changes seem to sound very normal. For typical EVLT and phlebectomy procedures, we recommend graduated compression stockings for 1-2 weeks.

If you haven't seen a vascular specialist yet, you must see one now.

You need an ultrasound done standing up to determine if it's your veins causing the symptoms. Your vein doctor should then be able to determine a treatment plan for you. Continue the compression during the day and especially if you are standing or sitting for long periods.

It varies and depends on why it is being used. It is not unusual for ulcers take months to heal, if wraps are the primary treatment. From swelling, it depends on the goal of therapy.

Three months seems a long time. I assume you referring to the unna boot. Venous ablations may be considered next if ultrasound shows incompetent veins and you have no contraindication to the procedure.

If compression is used for routine post vein surgery, then that is way too aggressive. I usually only have people wear a stocking for a week. You may have a different condition.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
