I had sclerotherapy in a vein on my calf 3 days ago. I thought the vein was supposed to look worse or that I should have some inflammation, but things have not changed much, except for a tiny dark spot. Does this mean the sclerotherapy did not work?
If there are clotted veins or the veins are gone it worked. If they are unchanged it didn't.
Give it some time and follow up with treating physician.
3 days is very early to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. Are you wearing compression hose? This would certainly help after injections to keep the vein collapsed with the solution in it for longer.
The dark spot could be a bruise at the puncture site.
If you are concerned see your treating physician.
I would not make that assumption. Your provider can evaluate on follow up and I am sure they can review the success with you.
You have to wait. Often times the inflammatory response is not visible until 2 weeks after the injection.
It does not mean that the sclerotherapy did not work. It may take up to 6 weeks to see any changes. A rule of thumb is that some veins will resolve immediately, some will resolve over 6 weeks and some will need multiple treatments.
