Immediatley after sclerotherapy I noticed tightness and pain on the top of my foot. It has been 2 days and it is still there. Should I be concerned?

I had sclerotherapy 2 days ago and immediately following the session I noticed a tightness and discomfort on the top of my foot. I had varicose veins treated and according to the doctor they were long, big veins in which she used a UV red light to see. She told me I would only need 1 treatment. I have also noticed that there are either more veins or the veins that were treated are darker. It has only been 2 days but I'm slightly concerned. Thoughts?

Firstly, I would recommend you see your treating physician if you have pain. Secondly, two days post-treatment is very early. There is a healing process and the possibility of localized inflammation and areas of "trapped blood" in larger veins. They will look darker and worse after the treatment as the blood flow is stopped by the injections. This can be removed by the doctor with a small needle puncture. I, as a surgeon, typically remove larger varicose veins because of this. Continue to wear your stockings for at least a week, and we have our patients massage the treated areas with Dermaka cream or Arnica, which speeds up the healing. Frequently apply low heat; this helps with discomfort.

You can have swelling after sclerotherapy. Best to have the doctor check it.
