It is normal for veins to appear pink after two sessions of laser therapy, and take so long to fade?

I have had two sessions of laser therapy to get rid of the appearance of spider veins on my leg. However, I can't tell if my veins are being stubborn, or if they really are in the process of fading. At times they look worse than they did prior to the procedure. However, in certain lights, and at certain times of the day, they appear to be fading. Overall, they are pink, and I think there is bruising. Some areas resemble snake bites with cat scratches. My legs look sloppy and gross. Please help!

Sometimes after topical laser treatment for spider veins, depending on how fair skinned you are and how much you bruise in general- some post tx discoloration is very common. We recommend using arnica gel/cream to help with this scarring and for any scarring in general. This is a organic over the counter gel that most doctors recommend after any procedures. Bear in mind that it takes more than one treatment for certain people to see a huge difference as well as some time to see the final end results. Call your doctor and ask to see if you can schedule a follow up appt- to address your concerns and see if you would require any additional sessions.
Good luck to you,

This is not uncommon occurrence. The small spider veins can be difficult to treat, especially if they are tiniest red thread veins.

All of the things that you describe are normal phases post laser therapy of spider leg veins. In general, the veins look worse before appearing better.

It takes a few weeks for the final result. I highly recommend sclerotherapy over laser for leg veins as it generally works much better.

The appearance you describe sounds like the normal healing process. The cat scratch appearance will eventually fade as will the actual veins. However, veins can take multiple treatments. We tell our patients between 3-5 and results can vary according to your body's response. We also treat the "feeder" veins below the surface which can be seen with a vein light in a dark room. If these are present and not treated, they can reopen the surface veins. After laser treatment to veins it is best to wait 6-8 weeks between treatment for maximum fading before re-treatment.
