I had vein ablation done over two years ago and I still feel an achy, burning sensation running down my leg from groin to knee. Is this permanent?

I thought after two years there would be no more discomfort and the veins would be gone. I have had this burning and achy feeling since the beginning. The treatment was to rid of veins running horizontally across the top of my knee on the lower thigh. They are still there. Even if I did go back to the doctor, what would he do? Another treatment? What are my options?

Possibly seek a second opinion from a board-certified, vascular-trained surgeon who specializes in varicose vein treatment. Without another ultrasound, it is difficult to discuss.

You need to be reevaluated with a new venous duplex exam to look for a source of the remaining veins. Also, it sounds as if you have residual nerve irritation and by two years, this should have resolved. This could be permanent, but should be reevaluated. You should see a vein specialist.

It sounds like you should go back to your physician and have a follow up duplex ultrasound. If not satisfied with your options, I would recommend a second opinion.

If you are having pain after the procedure, you need to be re-evaluated. If the veins were injected, they should be gone by now. Perhaps you only had an ablation of a superficial feeding vein to take the pressure out of the varicose veins in question. This would've taken the pressure out of them, but some residual varicose veins require removal or further treatment to resolve the discomfort they are causing.

First of all, you need to be seen by trained vascular specialist and get evaluated. It is very difficult to say if the symptoms are from residual or new veins unless an ultrasound is performed.
