My doctor recommended radiofeqency ablation and foam sclerotherapy on my leg. What are the risks involved with these procedures?
I obtained a detailed ultrasound of my leg. I have a few varicose veins. One of the veins is the great saphenous vein. The other vein is located in my knee. I have worn compression stockings for at least two and a half years now. I notice I'll have a few good days with hardly any pain but then I'll have days with constant aches. Two separate doctors have recommended treatment but I'm scared of the negative consequences of treatment. However, I'm only 30 and would like to live a quality life.

This procedure is incredibly safe. I'm just shocked that the doctors didn't discuss the risks with you. I think you need to find someone else. Infection, bleeding, nerve pain, and blood clots are all possible complications. These complications can occur with almost any procedure, however these risks are exceedingly low.

In the hands of a board certified surgeon, vascular trained, there is little to worry about. As this is considered a chronic problem, it may continue to progress and increase your symptoms. Many women in their 30's or younger have been treated with great results. The problem, while inherited, may not show up until pregnancy. In the right hands, this procedure will improve your quality of life.
