My nurse says she does not need to use Veinlite during my sclerotherapy session. Should I seek treatment elsewhere?

My nurse says she does not need to use Veinlite during my sclerotherapy session. I am afraid that she will be unable to treat the bigger, feeder veins. Should I seek treatment elsewhere?

There is no need. An experienced physician can do the treatment properly without Veinlite.

The Veinlite or other methods such as ultrasound guidance are mandatory, in my opinion, to identify deeper reticular or perforator veins that feed the surface spider and reticular vein networks.

Spider veins can be treated by visual sclerotherapy alone, but only after ruling out the presence of feeding veins to avoid early recurrence.

Veinlite helps in locating the reticular (feeder veins) veins for a more complete treatment which should give you long term clearing. It is also easier to see where the solution is going in the vein and branches. Treating just what is seen on the surface may provide temporary clearing only.

Some nurses have years and years of experience, and they are able to do a sclerotherapy session with out needing a vein light. It is your decision where you want to be treated, but not all nurses need a vein light to treat.

Some veins are visible and do not need the Veinlite. I use the device as an adjunct to help me visualize what I need to see and see if there is a vein feeding the area I am treating. Often sclerotherapy can be done visually without it. The lite aids in certain circumstances.
