On Wednesday, I had EVLT and phlebectomy on both legs. I am in a lot of pain in the top inner thighs when l stand. Is that normal?

Is there anything I can do? I've taken Ibuprofen 400 mg, but would like other options.

Walking and compression stockings are most important for pain reduction. Using a second compression stocking over the first stocking can also reduce discomfort. Ice to the area at 15-20 minute intervals can also be helpful.

It is usually normal to have some level of discomfort in and around the treated areas. How much discomfort usually depends on the size and location of your treated veins. I usually recommend walking and Ibuprofen 600mg every 6-8 hrs with food. If your pain continues to worsen, I would check with your doc to rule out DVT and other feeding side branches that can cause additional pain in the treated areas.

The location of the pain is normal. You need to take 800mg Ibuprofen tablets three times a day for a few days if your kidney function is normal and you are not on blood thinners or have stomach problems.

There are multiple reasons for excess pain after EVLT. There could be clot extension, infection or thermal irritation of the nerve. You should contact your surgeon and schedule the earliest follow-up. You can use warm compression.

It is normal to have pain after these surgical procedures. It sounds like your doctor didn't write any prescription for pain medication. Contact the office and let them know that you need something stronger. If you wait until 2am to call, you will likely get the physician. This will help the physician to remember to always give patients a prescription for pain after procedures are performed.

My patients go home with 800mg ibuprofen for 5-8 days. Most of the laser energy is in the top of the inner thigh. Wearing your compression hose, walking, and applying hot/cold all reduce discomfort. Use ice packs for first 24 hours.

What you describe is normal. The upper inner thigh is the area where the saphenous vein is largest and usually the most heat is applied. When the tumescent anesthesia wears off (over several days), the discomfort is increased for a few days and then subsides. Wet heat to the area, ibuprofen and compression all help.

The pattern travels up and then down my leg. I am scared to go back to the doctor who treated me. Is what I am experiencing normal? Should I seek the care of another doctor?

I had EVLT about 2-3 weeks ago and I'm still experiencing sharp pain. It's mostly when I stand or walk. Even when I wear a compression stocking during standing or walking, there is no relief. But if I don't wear the stocking, it feels like my vein is exploding. I checked with my vascular surgeon and he said I have a clot. What should I do? Is there any way to get the pain to subside? NSAIDs are not helping. Is it possible to remove the clot? If so, will the pain go away then?

I went to have my 6 month ultrasound after having both legs treated with endovenous laser ablation. According to my doctor, there is still trapped blood below my right knee. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? I completely regret doing this. :(

I clearly needed post-EVLT microphlebectomy or sclerotherapy. Why would I have to wait six months to be re-evaluated, when my legs clearly are not improved cosmetically? I feel that it should be done as soon as possible. What are your recommendations?
