What after effects can I expect after EVLT?I am having some very strange feelings in my foot two days after my surgery.

I am having some very strange feelings in my foot two days after my surgery and have gotten worst in next week. After I put my compression socks on I have had to take a couple of pills. Is this normal?

It is not uncommon for patients to get some strange sensation or numbness in their legs or feet after vein ablation. This is mostly due to irritation of some nerves during the procedure. Most of these symptoms go away in a few days but occasionally these may last for six weeks to six months.

You may be having problems with the stocking. Call your physician and see if he/she suggests taking the stocking off or decreasing the compression strength.

Check the stocking. Report your concern to your doctor. It is not uncommon for the stocking to be too tight and to cause strange feeling in the foot.

Some inflammation and discomfort immediately post operative is to be expected. If you however, are in terrible pain that you cannot tolerate then its in your best interest to call your vascular surgeon and arrange for a follow up visit to check and see if their is anything happening outside of the post operative norm. (with an ultrasound.)In the meantime, continue to wear the compression hose and elevate your legs when your sitting down, which may also help.
Good luck to you.

My patients only wear hose for one week so you may try going without the hose. It may be that one of the nerves is irritated from the procedure which may be relieved by continued massage of all area treated with slight pressure may desensitise it. It isn't a usual problem.
