There are many physicians who treat lymphedema. I would recommend seeing either a vein specialist or a vascular surgeon or a physician who may specialize in lymphedema such as in a university setting. There are also support groups for lymphedema that you may want to contact.

A vascular surgeon would be a great choice. There are lymphedema centers that specialize in this and tend to be associated with university hospitals.

If you have already been diagnosed with lymphedema, you should be referred to a lymphedema clinic for ongoing treatment and management. Most major hospital centers have a clinic, and you will be seen by physical/occupational therapist who specialize in this treatment. Firstly, you should be evaluated by a vascular surgeon to ensure there is no underlying vascular problem.

My left greater saphenous vein demonstrates severe reflux, slowing blood flow to the heart. The problem: I have lymphedema of the left leg. I've been told by a therapist that a cut or even an injection can disturb the lymphatic flow and that it can also cause me to go from stage 2 lymphedema to stage 3 or 4. I was told an injection may even bring on a cellulitus infection, which I have had several. Very concerned about getting an ablation on that leg. Will the procedure do more harm than good?
