The cost varies based on the type of pigment and may run anywhere from a few hundred dollars for one treatment, to several treatments costing up to $2500. The side effects are uncommon but include worsening hyperpigmentation, burns, blistering, and allergy to the numbing medications.

The risks are typical for any cosmetic laser application: hyperpigmentation, no improvement, recurrence, burning of the skin, scarring. Go to a reputable laser office.

This depends on the physician you use and what laser or device they are using. As well, it depends on the color of your skin and how likely you are to have pigmentation issues. We use Picoway, which gets rid of any epidermal or dermal pigment over several sessions. Most places charge $1,000 per session for this as it also tightens and builds collagen. Usually there are discounts and packages available. I'd call your doctor to inquire.

Be cautious when looking for treatment of pigmentation on the face. Many types (such as melasma) may become worse in the presence of heat, which is laser. You may be better to try a melanin-reducing facial treatment/peel.
