An initial consultation with a board certified Phlebologist at the Sheen Vein Institute is the next step. The consultation entails a comprehensive medical history followed by a physical examination and then if needed, an extensive ultrasound evaluation of the client; a diagnostic procedure we refer to as a “mapping.” The information obtained will then allow the physician to determine the necessary treatment protocol necessary to properly manage the client’s specific vein issues. The client will then be educated about his/her vein disease and how it is specifically adversely affecting them functionally, symptomatically and hemodynamically. An overview of the treatment modalities will also be discussed in detail at that time. The Sheen Vein Institute currently offers endovenous laser ablation therapy (ELT), ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy, and visually guided sclerotherapy as its preferred treatment options.
Endovenous laser therapy, or ELT, is an FDA approved procedure that has been widely accepted in the vein treatment world since 2001. The procedure, since that time, has generally replaced the old and brutal stripping procedures of the past. Endovenous laser therapy involves no surgery, no down time, no scars, and is universally well tolerated by all patients with little to no discomfort. Furthermore, the success rate of the ELT procedure approaches 98% when performed by experienced staff like at The Sheen Vein Institute.
Sclerotherapy is a procedure that has been utilized for generations in the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins. When used properly in combination with ELT or by itself, sclerotherapy is a valuable and essential tool in the vein treatment arsenal. The procedure involves injecting small quantities of a liquid or foamed drug that has been FDA approved specifically for vein treatment. Having FDA approval means that the drugs used have been thoroughly shown to be safe and effective. Injection sclerotherapy can be done either visually or in conjunction with ultrasound guidance; techniques we refer to as visually guided sclerotherapy and ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy, respectively. Both techniques are virtually pain-free, entirely outpatient and have no down time.
Varicose vein disease is generally regarded as an inherited disorder and therefore has no cure. As a result, a follow up protocol has been established at the Sheen Vein Institute to allow us to monitor our clients and intervene prior to any significant vein disease progression. Our protocol calls for ultrasound follow ups at 3, 6, and 12 months following the start of a client’s treatment and then annually thereafter. By following this protocol, it enables us keep our clients’ legs healthy and looking good.
For more information or to find out what treatment options would work best for you, call to schedule your initial consultation today with our board certified Phlebologists and let our experienced and caring staff walk you through this process and make your legs look better and feel better. Your legs will thank you.
