I have always had regular menstrual cycles, but ever since my ovarian vein embolization 7 weeks ago, my cycles have changed and are irregular. I had the procedure to treat pelvic congestion syndrome that I was diagnosed with. Could the change in my cycles be from the embolization? If so, will my cycles regulate back to normal in time?
It's impossible to say for sure if the procedure is the cause of the cycle change. Its hypothetically possible that the adnexal inflammation and/or venous obstruction have altered the way the ovaries are functioning. If the cycle change is due to the procedure, it will likely return to normal after everything settles down.

There is a very small chance that the embolization has caused a temporary change. I believe the change is most likely secondary to some other variable. There are many more variables that would be more likely to have changed it.

Researching the literature, I was unable to find any relationship between the procedure and a change in menstrual cycle.

It appears that the embolization may have changed your cycle at least over the short term. When you embolize your ovarian vein, you are affecting the circulation pattern of your ovary. This could in theory cause a variation in your cycle. How long this will continue and whether your cycle will eventually normalize, is difficult to say. Unfortunately, only time will tell as you heal in and adjust to the circulatory change.

Changes in your menstrual cycle can occur for a variety of reasons and are frequently impacted by hormonal changes. Ovarian vein embolization for pelvic congestion syndrome has not been associated with changes in menstrual cycle length or interval in a study that surveyed patients up to 2 years following treatment. With that in mind, each individual can react differently to treatments and it may be beneficial to have a discussion or consultation with your physician who performed the procedure since they will have complete knowledge of your medical history.

Irregular menstrual cycles could be a result of ovarian vein ablation for PCS. This should improve over time and could take several months. You should follow up with your gynecologist or treating physician.

I'm sorry, but I'm not an expert on this problem. Consult with your gynecologist.

While anything is possible, the best person to discuss this with is the physician who did the procedure, or a gynecologist.
