I have a chronic occluded iliac femoral DVT in my left leg after having a total hysterectomy. Should I try vein stenting again?

It has been one year since the clot. I wear full-length compression stockings all day. Is there any chance of the clot recannalizing, or is this it for me? I walk/jog and go to the gym, but my leg swells and gets tired. I want to be normal. Can I try vein stenting again, or is there a better procedure you can recommend?

Stenting, if it's possible, is your only good option.

This is a very common problem that we see.

Based on your leg fatigue and swelling, it is most likely that Ilio-femoral vein on that side is occluded, likely due to external compression. It sounds like you have had this treated in the past, but with the persistent symptoms, the vein may have closed off again. Repeat intervention with opening up the vein and stenting is what we would evaluate for. Clinical improvement and long-term patency after the procedure are quite high in our experience.

I hope this helps.

Vein stenting may be a very excellent procedure for you if it is possible to do. You should see someone who is experienced in doing this procedure. Most clotted veins either recannalize or collateral veins form around the clot.

I was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency and mild May-Thurner syndrome 4 years ago. I have never been pregnant. I manage the problem daily with compression socks and a low-salt diet. Both legs swell every day, the right one especially. Is it too high risk to get pregnant? I am a 32-year-old female. Also, should I look into stenting?

I read they can be removed one wire at a time. I have about 100 wires and wonder if this would be open surgery. I was implanted without needing them. My legs looked good, I could stand upright, no pain, no swelling. I am miserable, my legs are worse from stents and one ablation. I don't know if I will ever be able to walk without pain. I wake up with abdominal pain so I know my bladder is pushing up next the stents. I am also afraid of getting cervical cancer. I had a small vein on my shin.

18 months ago a vascular surgeon implanted me with 2 iliac stents. I am 69 and he never mentioned the risks or showed me what they look like. I am very upset. I have nerve damage, more veins and pain in my pelvic area. I saw where a patient had them removed one wire at a time. I don't have bulging veins, or any sign of venous disease. I am worse off and need an attorney. Vascular consultant said I didn't need stents and there were not enough veins.

I don't have any type of vein disease except spider veins. I was told I had an obstruction but wouldn't that show up on the outside of my legs? I got two stents and one ablation to one leg. I have abdominal pain and leg pain now when I didn't have either to begin with. I also have more veins and the treated leg has lumps and knee swelling. It's been 18 months. Are these lumps scar tissue? What are the risks and lifestyle or exercise limits? I am 69 and feel the stents were unnecessary.
