While you should always follow your physicians advice, typically most surgeons only require one week of compression hose and after that if you are more comfortable. Try cleaning off the top band of the hose with rubbing alcohol. Sometimes there is a build up of body oil which doesn't come off with regular washing. Do not put lotion on the thigh area. If the hose are older or stretched out you may need new ones.

Depending on the level of vein disease the benefit of stockings post procedure last longer than six weeks. In fact for people with more advanced vein disease they should wear their stocking indefinitely. However for patient with mild, Clinical class 2 superficial vein the difference between 3 or 6 weeks is very small.

Wear stockings for the full six weeks. If your stockings are falling down you most likely have the wrong size and need to get sized again.

It is fine to stop wearing the stocking after 3 weeks, especially if they are not fitting properly. This will not have any negative effect on your treatment results.

I recommend wearing compression hose for only two days following a closure procedure or sclerotherapy. I have been doing this for over 15 years and there is no difference in clinical results with wearing hose for 2 days or 6 weeks.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
