Is illiac vein stenting always done before vein closure?

I had two illiac vein stents without knowing they were stainless steel mesh, my doctor never let me know what they look like, or any of the risks or precautions. Had I seen them I would not have had the surgery. I am 68. I thought I was just getting one small vein on my shin taken care of.

Insertion of iliac vein stents are not done routinely before saphenous vein closure. It seems that your venous problems are more complex then you understand them to be. Iliac stents are done for symptomatic iliac vein stenosis and closure procedures are done for saphenous vein insufficiency. Patients sometimes have combinations of both. Stents need to be non compressible and this is way they are made of stainless steel. You should speak with your treating physician for a better understanding of your venous issues.

I was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency and mild May-Thurner syndrome 4 years ago. I have never been pregnant. I manage the problem daily with compression socks and a low-salt diet. Both legs swell every day, the right one especially. Is it too high risk to get pregnant? I am a 32-year-old female. Also, should I look into stenting?

I have had a deep vein clot for six months now and my thigh pain is getting worse. I also have a clot in the superfical vein on the side of my leg. I was told they are both large. Is there anything I can do to open/remove them or get rid of the pain?

It has been one year since the clot. I wear full-length compression stockings all day. Is there any chance of the clot recannalizing, or is this it for me? I walk/jog and go to the gym, but my leg swells and gets tired. I want to be normal. Can I try vein stenting again, or is there a better procedure you can recommend?

I don't have any type of vein disease except spider veins. I was told I had an obstruction but wouldn't that show up on the outside of my legs? I got two stents and one ablation to one leg. I have abdominal pain and leg pain now when I didn't have either to begin with. I also have more veins and the treated leg has lumps and knee swelling. It's been 18 months. Are these lumps scar tissue? What are the risks and lifestyle or exercise limits? I am 69 and feel the stents were unnecessary.

I was implanted with stents on both iliac veins, no venology, only ultra sound. I had only spider veins, no visible varicose veins. The staff and doctor said I had reflux how would they know that without the dye test?
