Is it normal after an IV for the vein to harden about 8 inches and also be extremely sore?

I had an IV about 8 days ago. Since then, the vein has hardened from my elbow to my wrist, and it is very sore. Is it normal after an IV for the vein to harden about 8 inches and also be extremely sore?

That vein has clotted off. There is no danger but can remain sore for a while. Ibuprofen may help.

It is not the norm for a vein to harden after an IV has been in it, but it is not uncommon for this to happen. The vein has become irritated, most likely from the medicine that was placed through the IV, resulting in the vein clotting. If the vein is tender then this may be a superficial phlebitis. See your treating physician. Usually wet heat to the area and ibuprofen will help.

Between 2011-2013 while I was 23-25 I was diagnosed with 3 DVTs at different times. After the third I was prescribed xeralto for life and told to wear compression socks. After 4 years without an issue I took a job in a warehouse which requires me be on my feet 8-10 hours a day. Now I've noticed my legs are very irritated from what I think is heat rash from compression socks. Is there a way to help this? Or should I consider finding a job involving less standing/walking?

I had a blood clot 4 weeks ago in my leg and lungs. I'm on Xarelto. I was feeling 100% until this past Monday, when I went and shot some hoops by myself and ran up and down the court. I did so pain-free, but when I got home my ankle, foot and calf became really swollen. It has been 4 days and it hasn't gotten better. No pain, but am concerned. Is this normal? I already have a visit with my GP next Friday. Should I try and get in sooner? Thank you.

I have reached out to my provider. They said 4 to 6 weeks before it returns to normal. Color is still off especially when I am on it. I have no idea how to care for my leg. Just had hysterectomy April 13 which led to the recent clot. I just need to know the to do's and not to do's. I will see a hematologist June 8th, but I need help now.

I have arthritis in my knees and they usually hurt when I fly. This time my right calf is cramping and I have pain behind my knee and where my leg meets my hip. I am supposed to fly again in two days. Should I get this checked before I fly? If so, can I go to a walk-in clinic or do I need to go to an ER?

I had contradictory advice from different vascular surgeons. One stated that the blood when running goes up really fast in the veins and that wearing stockings could create skin problems. I have femoropopliteal DVT (diagnosed 5 months ago) and use class II thigh-high stockings. Again, here some suggest knee-high instead.
