Is it normal for my legs to be bruised and painful weeks after a phlebectomy?

I had laser and a phlebectomy done about four weeks ago, and my legs are black and blue and they still hurt. Is this normal?

Some people bruise more than others. We recommend our patients massage with Arnica or Dermaka cream several times a day. This helps resolve bruising faster. However, it is unusual for there to be very much bruising or pain on month out. See your doctor again.

Bruising often takes longer to resolve. Be patient and try Arnica.

No, it is not normal. I do these procedures every week and there is usually no pain at all from a phlebectomy. There can be some discomfort after an ablation, but this is usually gone in 1-2 weeks. Bruising is usually minimal or none.

Healing following laser ablation and microphlebectomy usually varies between 2 to 8 weeks. The black and blue is due to blood escaping from the lasered vein, and from bleeding under the skin from the microphlebectomies. Wet warm compresses and ibuprofen should help.
