There are no good studies giving definite answers. It is more or less not known for sure if they are worth it. Right now, there is controversy as to any benefit from stockings after spider vein treatment. We have stopped recommending them, but others still do.

We feel that some compression for anything from 3 - 7 days when treating spider veins whether with injection, sclerotherapy, laser or ohmic thermolyisis (Vein Wave). This seems to be the consensus among professionals across the country. It can only enhance the treatment outcomes.

Veinwave uses a process called ohmic thermolysis and this is not sclerotherapy. There is no need to wear compression hose following this procedure.

I have been using Veinwave in my practice for eight years and do not require patients to wear stockings afterward. While Veinwave is used only for small spider veins which would be unaffected by stockings, larger veins treated by sclerotherapy do require stockings for optimal effectiveness and safety reasons.
