While there is no set minimum age for Sclerotherapy for spider veins, the condition is such that it is rarely seen in patients under 16 years old. For these children, it is very important to make sure that there are no underlying medical conditions that would have brought on the problem. For younger children, it is always appropriate to consult with a Pediatrician before beginning Sclerotherapy.

There is no minimum age for sclerotherapy. I would be reluctant to recommend it to preteens or children, but I have treated people in their teens and early 20's. Likewise, there is no maximum age.

There is no certain age. Even young patients ages 3 to 4 can undergo schlerothereapy, but it can be uncomfortable. We usually recommend that a patient be old enough (usually over 10 years old) to tolerate the discomfort.

While there is no set age at which Sclerotherapy can be performed, spider veins and varicose veins typically develop over time and it is therefore rare to perform Sclerotherapy in the teenage years. There is, however, no minimum age requirement.

There is no age limit on sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is treatment of veins. The veins can be varicose, reticular or spider veins and, if there is an underlying vein problem, treatment may be covered by insurance.

Sclerotherapy can be performed on a patient of any age, but is usually not done during pregnancy. Contraindications include active/recent blood clots, inability to walk or follow instructions, and allergy to the medication used. Age itself is not a contraindication, although most patients don't develop varicose veins until adulthood.

Varicose veins can be seen in teenagers, so as long as the specific physician is fine with the sclerotherapy and there is parental consent, I think the physician would treat even if a patient were that young.

Although there is not a specific age related to sclerotherapy treatment, it is not dependent on adolescent milestones such as bone growth (epiphyseal plate) cessation or onset of menses. Sclerotherapy for "Medical Necessity" (symptomatic veins) would thus be looked at on an individual basis. For cosmetic reasons, I personally would not perform sclerotherapy for anyone under 20- 21 years of age.

Sclerotherapy has no real age limits. We have treated patients as young as 17 and as old as 89. In older folks, they should be in good health and very active and able to walk. It is somewhat difficult in younger people, as we require compression hose after treatments so compliance can be an issue. Likewise in the older patients due to decreased range of motion needed to get the hose on and off.

The youngest person I have treated was a 9-year-old girl with one prominent vein on her posterior thigh. I do not think that there is a specific age requirement for sclerotherapy. Certainly young children would not tolerate the needles and there should be a necessary reason to treat anyone under l7 or l8. Similarly, there is no upper age limit for sclerotherapy.

It depends on what is going on. For general cosmetic spider veins, we have treated as young as age 16,
accompanied by a parent. Some children have more severe congenital vascular problems (from birth) and
require in-depth evaluation to determine the appropriate approach.
