Dr. Yan Katsnelson

Dr. Yan Katsnelson is a highly-skilled cardiovascular surgeon with years of experience. He completed his training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital: Boston Hospital and Medical Center, Harvard Medical School and served as the attending Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Katsnelson’s clinical interests include minimally-invasive aortic and mitral valve surgery, complex aortic operations, re-operative coronary and valve surgery, and beating-heart (off-pump) bypass surgery. His research interests are in the fields of mitral valve repair and ventricular assist devices. Dr. Katsnelson performs a wide range of vascular and thoracic operations, including Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT), a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure to treat venous insufficiency. Dr. Katsnelson is passionate about helping people suffering from vein, vascular and fibroid disease live healthier, more active lives after treatment.


Dr. Katsnelson is the founder of the Chicago Heart Institute and USA Vein Clinics, Vascular and Fibroid Centers. He is fluent in English, Russian, and Hebrew. He is also a member of the American College of Phlebology and the Society of Thoracic Surgery. In addition, Dr. Yan Katsnelson is an author and co-author of multiple medical publications.
