Varicose Veins Lead to Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Updated on: August 18, 2014
Most women know that they need to get regularly screened for breast cancer. Unfortunately, not all women take that knowledge seriously. Such was the case for one woman who developed breast cancer and didn't realize it despite the fact that she got an inverted nipple as a result of the disease. Six months after the development of the inverted nipple, the woman went to her doctor to get her varicose veins checked out. At that time, she mentioned the nipple in passing. The doctor checked it out and she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This is an interesting story because it begs the question of why the woman would get varicose veins checked out by a doctor if she didn't even care to get an inverted nipple taken care of. It could be because the veins were very painful. Or it could be because she feared that they would lead to a blood clot. Or perhaps her vanity extended to her legs but not her breasts. Who knows? But it's a story that reminds us that we need to pay attention to our total health and to tell our doctors about all of the symptoms that plague us over time. Question of the Day: What do you think caused this woman to get her varicose veins checked out when she obviously had other health concerns? photo link
