I typically ask my patients to walk frequently after the procedure. The treadmill, elliptical machine and stairmaster can be used the following day. However, patients have to be sure not to overdo it. They should gradually return to normal speed over the next 7 to 10 days. Use your body as a guide. If you overdo it, you will be more uncomfortable.

I typically tell my patients that they can resume normal physical activities after a week. However, each vein specialist has their own timeline and, therefore, you would need to consult with your MD about this matter.

Following endovenous laser ablation, I tell patients to resume exercise as soon as they feel capable. This is usually one to three days post-op. If microphlebectomies are a part of the procedure, then I recommend patients wait 5 days before jogging, running on the treadmill, doing leg squats or swimming to allow the micro-incisions to seal. Non-impact workouts (such as elliptical, biking and spinning) can be done as soon as the patient is comfortable.

We have allowed our patients to use the treadmill and/or the elliptical machine the same day of the endovenous laser ablation. Our only activity restriction: no lifting over 20 lbs for a week.

Depending on how you feel following the endovenous laser ablation, you can resume physical activities the same day. Since my patients tend to do well after the procedure, I do not put any physical limitations on my them. Still, you should discuss this matter with your treating physician. He/She may recommend otherwise based on your particular outcome.
