After VNUS closure of an insufficient Saphenous Vein, there is not any significant or consistent improvement in non-Saphenous varicose veins or, especially, venous telangiectases, i.e., 'spider' veins. Varicose veins and venous telangiectases still require treatment by Sclerotherapy. If someone has spider veins, prior VNUS (or other endovenous ablation) rarely has any effect. If spider veins are in the presence of an asymptomatic but insufficient Saphenous Vein, sclerotherapy of the spider veins can proceed - and will result in the disappearance of the spider veins - without having to ever - or prior - treat the Saphenous Vein.

If your surgeon didn't remove the surface varicose veins (microphlebectomy) you may continue to see varicose veins. Approx 50% of the bulging veins MAY resolve. In my practice, as a vascular trained surgeon, I remove many of the varicose veins at the same time as the ablation which gives immediate relief from the unsightly veins, saves you time (typically one procedure) and money. One procedure, one downtime.

Large varicose veins first become firm and lumpy after VNUS Closure, and then slowly recede over the course of several months, eventually disappearing. The treated leg usually feels better before it looks better.

It all depends on the results you are looking to have. If you mean disappearance of spider or blue veins, this will not occur from endovenous closure. If you mean disappearance of varicose veins, these may resolve over about a year, but most likely, they will require an additional procedure such as sclerotherapy or microphlebectomies. If you mean resolution of bruising following closure, this will take about 10 days to 2 weeks.

Surface varicose veins may or may not "deflate" by six months. If you still have surface veins, you will need sclerotherapy to chemically ablate these veins. Now that the saphenous vein has been closed, you should respond nicely to the injections.

Ijust had VNUS closure surgery 4 days ago and the pain is minimal. But, I did notice today it feels like there is a throbbing or heartbeat, almost like a twitching or pumping in my upper leg. It doesn't hurt. Is this normal? What's causing the pulsing/throbbing? Also, am I able to tan (tanning bed or stand up) if I wear my support hose so my leg is not directly exposed to the light, and if I don't use tanning lotion on the leg?? When will the fat, worm-like veins go down or look better?
