The older lasers with shorter wavelengths (less than 900 nm) usually cause bruising and discomfort for several weeks; while the newer, longer wavelength lasers (more than 1300 nm) cause no bruising or pain.

Every patient heals differently; therefore, it is hard to determine when the bruising will subside after the endovenous laser ablation has been performed. That said, on average, bruising resolves within 2 weeks.

Bruising can last from a few days to a few weeks. In some cases, however, it could be a month or two. You may have severe bruising or none at all, it all depends on your body's ability to heal.

The time it will take for the bruising to heal varies from person to person and depends on the severity of inflammation in the veins, size of the veins and type of laser used. We typically see minimal bruising from our ablations. If you are having microphlebectomies (removal of varicose veins) at the same time, there may be a little more bruising.

Bruising post-laser ablation depends on how close the vein is to the skin's surface. Other considerations include: the volume of Tumescent anesthetic used, whether any branches were punctured when the solution was injected, laser wavelength, fluence delivered to the vein, and how quickly the blood clots. It can be from 1 to 3 weeks. Pigmentation, however, lasts much longer.

Usually, bruising can last anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the type of laser used or radio frequency catheter. VNUS closure and the 1470 laser tend to have less bruising and a faster recovery, but almost everyone has some degree of bruising.
